A project in the Cofán Community of Dureno-Sucumbios, Ecuadorian Amazon. Designer Violeta Villacorta is working with Cofán artisans to promote their arts and crafts as a source of a sustainable economy for the community, a rich culture and people who live in harmony with Mother Nature. Funds are still needed to give every home in Dureno and other Cofán communities deeper in the Amazon, filtered water catchment systems that collect water from the daily rains and can supply each family with clean drinking and cooking water. A goal, among other needs, of the Cofán Community. Sustainability takes time in these areas that have been left on their own after the intrusion of extractive industries in their territories. She has been interviewed on television in the US and Europe; and has dressed luminaries in the music and film industry. Violeta Villacorta has also showed her collection at MOCA Geffen Museum in Los Angeles during Fashion Week. She is currently working on a creative design project in collaboration with indigenous communities in the Amazon, to promote their arts and crafts by incorporating their millenary work into contemporary designs as a means to generate a sustainable economy for the stewards of the most biodiverse ecosystem.
